Part 2

McBride Elementary Mission Statement

A description of the process of defining the school’s mission statement

McBride Elementary School engaged upon a comprehensive task defining its beliefs and mission through collaborative teamwork and a consensus-building process.  This process involved teachers, administrators, and parents.

Analysis groups were charged with the task of examining the school’s profile data.  A priority was placed on collective data of achievement levels of students, and the opinions of teachers, parents, and community members about the quality of our school compared to the national sample, based on the National Study of School Evaluation’s Opinion Inventory.  Critical analysis of this data enabled us to identify key issues highly significant to the needs of students and community we serve in our school.

In addition to this internal analysis, we participated in a study of substantial findings of educational research about the teaching and learning process, future trends, and the constantly changing workplace of today.  Findings of the implications of the data and future trends were assessed and discussed by the planning team.  As a result, we defined our beliefs and mission statement, which enabled us to draw upon “exceptional practices” identified through research.

Rough drafts of the mission statement were circulated to faculty and administration members for review and comment.  Feedback was collected by the planning team and modifications were made based on the suggestions received.  The following page contains our beliefs and mission statement.

Beliefs:

 We believe that:

  • each student’s individuality should be recognized.

  • students learn best when they are actively involved.

  • students are more likely to experience success in a caring and nurturing environment.

  • teachers, parents, and students share the responsibility for successful learning.
